Crawford County

Crawford county is located in north central Ohio and calls Bucyrus its county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 47,010, a decrease of 860 over the 1990 census.

The county was organized in 1820 and is named in honor of a Revolutionary War hero, Col. William Crawford.

As was common with the early growing pains within the state, Crawford, and other counties, expanded and shrank seemingly without reason. Today's geographical configuration was finally reached in 1848.

Among the historically significant buildings are the Judge Thomas Beer House in Bucyrus, the J & M Trading Post in Leesville and the Col. William Crawford Capture Site, also in Leesville.
