The Barrie Canoe Club, located on Kempenfelt Bay, is a non-profit, community-oriented organization, working to further the welfare of the community as a whole through the promotion of water safety and improved recreational skills. It was formed for the purpose of uniting paddlers for the protection of their interests, for the improvement of their skills and the promotion of all aspects of paddle related activities. Activities include canoeing (moving water and lake water), kayaking (river kayaking and sea kayaking), racing (marathon and outrigger), hiking, orienteering, skiing, snowshoeing, tubing, winter and summer camping. Courses and clinics are held to improve skills in paddling, orienteering, wilderness first aid and water safety.
