Settled in 1784, Brantford has won national and international awards for its beautiful municipal gardens and parks. The Brantford and Area Sports Hall of Recognition in the Wayne Gretsky Sports Centre has exhibits open to the public. The International Villages Festival is held in July with international foods, entertainment, and displays of crafts. Also in July is the Grand River Champion of Champions Powwow celebrating native music, dance, art, and crafts. The Six Nations Native Pageant is held in August and celebrates the early history of the area. The Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, a restored 1919 vaudeville theater, is open year round.
