Fergus was named for its Scottish founder, Adam Ferguson. Once known as Little Falls, the town's many 19th-century limestone buildings are reminiscent of Scottish architecture. The Highland Games and Fergus Scottish Festival are held in August with heavy events, massed bands, and Highland dancing. A restored traditional English garden, Templin Gardens, can be found in the center of town. Many visitors are attracted to the area for hiking, fly-fishing, and canoeing on the
Grand River.
