A model community developed according to a provincial plan, Kapuskasing was founded as a company town around a pulp-processing mill. A later paper mill supplied the newsprint for the New York Times for 50 years. Guided mill tours are available in the summer. A French Canadian cultural center offers changing art exhibits.
