Kingston Mills Lock Station

Located at the southern entrance to the Rideau Canal , the Kingston Mills lock station has four adjoining locks that raise or lower boats 45 ft. A visitor centre is located in the Lockmaster's House. The Blockhouse is one of four built to protect the entrance to the canal. It is furnished in 1838 period militia style. The Rideau Canal was built 1826-32 as a strategic military alternative to the supply route along the St. Lawrence River. The Kingston Mills locks are the southernmost of 47 locks of the 126 miles which ends at the lift locks adjacent to the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa.
