The museum is located on the site of North America's first commercial oil well. James Miller Williams dug the well in 1858. Visitors can view the indoor and outdoor exhibits. Outside, on the spacious landscaped grounds, are the reconstructed William's Well, the first to produce oil commercially and other working wells and exhibits depicting the first methods used to extract "black gold" from the earth.
