The Port of Bandon has built a new solid breakwater and floating dock system to protect its new recreational boat launch which offers viewing of birds in the bay. Access to Beach Loop Drive is reached by turning west at the light at milepost 270.8,or by going south along the waterfront of Old Town. The Beach Loop passes Bandon Rocks, Bandon Ocean Wayside, and Bandon State Park, all of which offer beach access and great views of offshore rocks. Between April and August look for pelicans flying by as well as cormorants and common murres. Sometimes you can see tufted puffins on the rocks. The views are worth it even if you don't see many birds.
