Black Butte

This easily recognized landmark northwest of Sisters rises to a height of more than 6400 feet. It is easily distinguished from other peaks of the Cascade Mountains due to its symmetry. The Metolius River flows from its north base, the result of a giant spring. It has been known as Black Butte since at least 1855. Another name formerly used was Pivot Mountain.
