Charleston, Oregon (Cities) image

Charleston is located in Coos County, between North Bend and Bandon. Also situated along Cape Arago Hwy near: Oregon Dunes National Rec. Area, Sunset Bay State Park, Shore Acres State Park, Cape Arago State Park, South Slough Nat'l Estuarine Reserve and the mouth of the Coos River.

Fishermen chase the abundant Halibut, salmon, snapper, tuna and other fish in the waters off of this popular deep-sea fishing and whale-watching spot in the Pacific Ocean.

Other attractions include the Coos Art Museum, Coos County Historical Society Museum, Mingus Park and the Marshfield Sun Printing Museum. The main industries for the area are timber, fisheries, maritime and tourism. Until the recent lumber shortages, nearby Coos Bay was the largest timber shipping port in the world.
