Shore Acres was where Louis Simpson, the founder of
North Bend, built both his mansions. The first was destroyed by fire. The second was pulled down by the State of Oregon after WW II to save the cost of maintaining it.
Simpson's famous gardens are preserved within the park and are available for viewing during park hours. During the holiday season, the garden comes alive with over a quarter of a million lights and refreshments in the Gardener's Cottage.
Simpson Cove is a short walk south from the gardens. Most of the garden is wheelchair accessible.
