Curtin is located in Douglas County, south of Eugene, between Cottage Grove and Drain on Interstate 5 exit 163, near the upper Siuslaw River.

The first purebred natural colored Romneys (type of sheep) were registered by the American Romney Breeders Association in 1972 by Morris Culver of Curtin. In the last three decades, the popularity of Romneys has spread from the West Coast across the nation.
