Interstate 5 is one of two Interstates crossing Oregon, the other being <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/i/i84.htm">Interstate 84</a> from Portland to the Idaho border. Interstate 5 travels in the other direction, following fairly closely the old route of US 99. Beginning in <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/p/portland.htm">Portland</a>, the highway heads south through <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/s/salem.htm">Salem</a>, past <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/a/albany.htm">Albany</a>, and virtually splits <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/e/eugene.htm">Eugene</a> and <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/s/springfi.htm">Springfield</a> at the southern end of the <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/z/zwillvly.htm">Willamette Valley</a>. Entering more rugged terrain, the highway goes through <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/r/roseburg.htm">Roseburg</a> and <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/g/grantspa.htm">Grants Pass</a> before reaching <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/m/medford.htm">Medford</a> and finally <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/a/ashland.htm">Ashland</a> near the California border.<P>           <P>
