Growing Forest Driving Tour

The self-guided Growing Forest Guided Tour will take you on a journey through 500 years of forest growth, starting with tiny seedling and ending with the Doerner Fir, the largest known Douglas fir in the world, 329 feet tall and 11.5 feet in diameter.

A half-mile trail winds through an old growth stand to reach the Doerner Fir. Allow three-quarters of a day to complete the entire six-stop tour.

Free illustrated tour booklets are available at area visitor centers, the BLM office on Airport Lane in North Bend, and the Fairview Store in Fairview. The tour begins at the town of Fairview, 8 miles east of Coquille in Coos County.
