In 1988 the Metolius River was designated a National Wild and Scenic River because of its outstanding scenic and recreational qualities. Fed by myriad springs, the temperature and flow rate are constant, creating a unique environment. The Metolius Recreation Area is located within the 1.6 million acre Deschutes National Forest.
