Camp Sherman is located in
Jefferson County northwest of
Bend, between
Sisters and
Madras, situated off of
Highway 20 along the Metolius River.
The first building was built in 1917 and summer residents have ever since been leasing land from the US Forest Service.
Education came early to the Camp Sherman area. Black Butte School, near First Creek, started in 1888. A new one-room, log schoolhouse was completed in 1917.
Raft down with the Deschutes River in awe of its splendid beauty. On Sundays, the historic Chapel in the Pines holds services at 10 a.m. This is a converted rail car from earlier lumber camp days and now hosts the non-denominational services as well as many weddings. The Camp Sherman General Store is another favorite attraction for Camp Sherman locals as well as visitors, offering food delicacies, fly fishing equipment and local information.
