The Umpqua River is one of the major rivers flowing into the Pacific on the Oregon Coast. At its mouth is <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/w/winchbay.htm">Winchester Bay</a> in the heart of the <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/o/odnra.htm">Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area</a>. Upstream, both Gardiner and <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/r/reedspor.htm">Reedsport</a> are on <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/h/hwy101.htm">Highway 101</a>. The river is a single waterway until just below <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/r/roseburg.htm">Roseburg</a>, where it splits into the North Umpqua and South Umpqua. Both of these have their sources in the Cascades to the east.<P>     <P>
