Little more than a wide spot in the road, this rural community lies midway between
Eugene and
Florence on State Highway 126. The trip from Eugene to Florence takes about one & one-half hours. The commercial establishments in Walton aren't much. They include a post office and a cafe that sells plants. The cafe is a simple affair, yet offers a variety of dishes including a delicious lunch of homemade soup & sandwich on homemade bread.
While there are no fuel facilities available on this 30 mile stretch of highway 126 from Veneta to Mapleton, Walton is more than it appears. Nestled in a river canyon, the scenery is pastoral and sublime. There are homes and farms along the highway there that set one's mind to day dreaming about living the Oregon rural life.
