Allegheny National Forest

The only national forest in Pennsylvania, it extends 40 miles south from the New York-Pennsylvania border; its 516,000 acres include 500 miles of fishing streams, 226 miles of hiking and cross-country skiing trails, 297 miles of snowmobile trails and 106 miles of trailbike & ATV routes. Six boat launches and a full-service marina provide access to the 12,000-acre Allegheny Reservoir; 16 campgrounds are on or near the shore. Five of these can be reached only by boat or on foot. Several picnic areas are available throughout the forest, some with unsupervised swimming facilities.
