Ambridge takes its name from the American Bridge Company, the first big industry in the area. The town is located in
Beaver County just northwest of
Pittsburgh along Highway 65 on the banks of the
Ohio River near the Ambridge Reservoir.
Ambridge has numerous parks, as well as Old Economy Village, home of the Harmony Society, established in 1824. The Harmony Society consisted of German immigrants seeking religious freedom in "the promised land." The society dissolved in 1905, and today, Old Economy Village is a National Historic Landmark.
Ambridge is situated just west of the Ohio/West Virginia state lines and is part of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania metro area.
