The Old Economy Village was the home of the nineteenth century Christian communal group, the Harmony Society. Established in 1824, Economy was known worldwide for its piety and industrial prosperity. The Village, a National Historic Landmark site, is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. Today, Economy is a six-acre historic site representing the social, religious and economic hub of the Harmony Society. Over 16,000 Harmonists objects are exhibited in 17 restored Harmonists structures built between 1824 and 1830. Old Economy Village reflects the Harmonists commitment to the religious discipline and economic industry which built their American Utopia.
