The history of the Cherokee Indians who once lived in this area is depicted in the park museum and four outdoor kiosks. Keowee-Toxaway State Park contains 1,000 acres that features rock outcroppings and views of the Foothills and Blue Ridge Mountains. The town and its river were both called Keowee. The Toxaway River flowed a few miles north and much of its bed, along with the town of Keowee, are under the lake waters now. Picnicking, camping, hiking, and one large lakefront cabin available.
