Old Edgefield Pottery |
The Old Edgefield Pottery, founded in 1992, is the "culmination of a goal of the Edgefield County Historical Society to educate the public as to the significance of the alkaline-glazed tradition in the heritage of the arts and humanities in Southern decorative arts." The society refurbished an old building off the Town Square in Edgefield to house the project.
Visitors to the shop can not only see examples of original Edgefield pottery dating as early as the 1820s, but also reproductions that are for sale. All proceeds from this project go to the Edgefield County Historical Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Edgefield County history. There are also informative demonstrations and lectures on the history of the tradition while demonstrating the techniques of of pottery.
The Old Edgefield Pottery is located on Simkins Street. The pottery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or by appointment.
