The courthouse was built a year before South Dakota became a state and remained in service until 1973. Local history is displayed in 15 rooms. Exhibits include American Indian artifacts. An 1875 log cabin contains antique printing presses from the county newspaper. Other buildings include a blacksmith shop and a carriage shed that contains vintage stagecoaches and vehicles used at the turn of the 20th century.
