In
Black Hills, Badlands & Lakes Region, Edgemont is located in
Fall River County, just over the Wyoming line on US 18, at the junction with Hwy 471. It lies in the Buffalo Gap National Grassland, on the edge of the
Cheyenne River. It annually hosts the Fall River County Fair.
It is primarily a farming and cattle community today, after many boom and bust periods, but retains many buildings dating back to its inception.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 842, a decrease of 64 since 1990.
