Garretson is located in
Minnehaha County, 20 minutes northeast of the
Sioux Falls, South Dakota metro area, on Hwys 11 and 115 (just north of I-90) on the banks of the Split Rock River near the Minnesota state line, in
Dakota Heritage & Lakes Region. There are three parks along the river, and at nearby Devil's Gulch one can stand on the footbridge spanning the chasm that Jesse James jumped over during a pursuit.
