Matthews Opera House Spearfish Center for the Arts and Humanities

Established in 1906, Matthews Opera House features year-round live theater performances, visual arts displays, winter art show, gala events and more.

The Spearfish Center for the Arts & Humanities is a non-profit organization headquartered in the historic Matthews Opera House. Its mission is to provide quality arts and humanities programming and education while preserving the historic Matthews Opera House.

While SCA&H is a relatively young organization, it was created through the merger of two long standing community predecessors. In 1998, the Matthews Opera House Society and the Spearfish Area Council on the Arts and Humanities combined to form one non-profit organization, SCA&H.
