Founded in 1973, America's Shrine to Music Museum and Center for Study of the History of Musical Instruments is one of the great institutions of its kind in the world. Its renowned collections, which include more than 9,500 American, European, and nonwestern instruments from virtually all cultures and historical periods, are among the most comprehensive anywhere. The Museum is fully accredited by the American Association of Museums in Washington, DC, and is recognized as "A Landmark of American Music" by the National Music Council. The Museum's meteoric rise to world-class status has attracted international attention. Today, its holdings are rivaled only by instrument collections in such cultural centers as Berlin, Brussels, Paris, and Vienna.
