Gary Public Library, serving an area of 230 residents, has a collection of 12,000 books and periodicals; in addition, there are 36 CDs, records, cassettes and other audio materials, as well as 35 video items, such as DVDs and VHS tapes. Staffing consists of one employee, plus volunteers. Annual expenditures on the library collection total $440. Patrons make 500 visits annually, and check out materials 5,000 times. Twenty percent of all check-outs are children's materials.
