Carthage Public Library, serving an area of 189 residents, has a collection of 11,000 books and periodicals; in addition, there are 25 CDs, records, cassettes and other audio materials, as well as 110 video items, such as DVDs and VHS tapes. Staffing consists of one employee, plus volunteers. Annual expenditures on the library collection total $380. Patrons make 400 visits annually, and check out materials 1,380 times. Thirty percent of all check-outs are children's materials.
