Ayr was first chartered during the 13th-century and has become a popular resort, harbor and market town. Attractions that flock visitors here are the famous racehouse, Tower of St. John, Auld Brug, Loudon Hall and a townhouse of Sheriffs of Ayrshire built by Oliver Cromwell in 1654. Auld Kirk where famous Romantic Age poet, Robert Burns, was baptized, is also located here. South of town, Belleisle Park has a zoo, nature trail, gardens and championship golf course.
