Leith

|
Formerly an independent municipality and parliamentary burgh, Leith was incorporated into Edinburgh in 1920. It is located on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, two miles north of Edinburgh, to which it is joined by continuous street lines, the oldest being Leith Walk. Leith is the largest port in eastern Scotland. Leither was twice seized and burned by the Earl of Hertford (1544 and 1547) and it was partially burned by the Jacobites in 1715. The burgh's original name was Inverleith, dating to 1128.
