Established by the government in 1786 as a fish market, Oban today is a popular spot during holiday seasons. Oban has a harbor with views of the nearby Hebrides Islands. There are day cruise trips to the island of Iona. The history of the town's fish markets still exist today on the docks every Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
