Montgomery County (of which it is the county seat) northwest of
Nashville along US Highway 79 on the banks of the Cumberland River near Ft Campbell Military Reservation and Dunbar Cave State Natural Area. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 97,978, an increase of 22,436 since 1990.
