Dayton is located in
Rhea County (of which it is the county seat) northeast of
Chattanooga between Pikeville and Decatur along Highway 30 near the Tennessee River and Laurel-Snow State Natural Area. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 6,263, an increase of 592 since 1990.
