Erwin is located in
Unicoi County (of which it is the county seat) southwest of
Johnson City between Unicoi and Ernestville along Highway 19W near Nolichucky River and within the Cherokee National Forest. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,362, an increase of 44 since 1990.
