Outside items are either an oil finish which weathers to a nice silvery gray, or a clear marine varnish that brings out all the beautiful color of the wood. Inside items are lacquered for a smooth furniture finish. Red cedar is very resistant to the weather and also has a pleasant aromatic smell.
