The refuge is located on more then 42,000 acres along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and includes nesting areas for mottled ducks and the ancestral wintering grounds of snow geese. Since the area was established in 1966, 247 bird species have been identified here. Before visiting, contact refuge headquarters.
