Fort Belnap

U.S. Army post established in 1851 at another location by Gneral Wm Belknap; moved that same year to present site along Brazos River. One of the largest posts in Texas before the Civil War, it protected settlers and travelers and was a stop on the famous Butterfield Overland Mail Route.
