The park sits on land donated by the people of the county, who felt the need for a large recreation place in one of the several magnificently timber3ed areas around
Huntsville. The park was opened in 1938.
In October 1937, the Civilian Conservation Corps was brought in to begin construction. The major structure built by the CCC at Huntsville was the dam creating Lake Raven.
Facilities include picnic sites, tent campsites, RV sites, a bathhouse, fishing piers, boat rentals, and others.
