National Historical Landmark established in 1853 when Capt Richard King purchased 75,000 acres of a Spanish land grant called Santa Gertrudi. His widow inherited this grant along with a half million in debt, which was cleared by her canny leadership. Holdings today comprise 825,000 acres spreading over Nueces, Kenedy, Kleberg, and Wilacy counties. Originally based on the Texas Longhorn breed, the King Ranch has its own breed of stock as well as many others. Ranch tours vary throughout season. Call for times.
