Rainbow and Veterans Bridges

Rainbow Bridge connects Orange and Bridge City on the north with Port Arthur on the south over the Neches River--a two-lane vintage 1938 high-arched bridge spanning salt marshes and industrial river channel for 1.5 miles. The bridge's 176-foot clearance was a U.S. Navy requirement so that its tallest vessel (in 1938, a dirigible tender) could pass under the span. The 1991 Veterans Bridge, with its 143-foot navigation clearance, is the first cable-stayed Texas bridge. A park on its south end has a playground and picnic area.
