Part of the Texas State University System, Sam Houston State University was founded in 1879. It occupies a 2143-acre campus, where about 9000 full-time undergraduates and 1500 graduate students take classes. Nearly all undergraduates are from Texas. About a quarter of students live on campus. Sports facilities include a 14,000-seat stadium and a 5,200-seat gymnasium. Popular majors include law enforcement, psychology, and business.
