Located 25 miles southeast via I-45, then 3 miles east to 1601 NASA Road 1. This official visitors center for Johnson Space Center, home of Mission Control, offers a hands-on experience of space exploration. Visitors can try on space helments, touch a moon rock, use computers to simulate retrieving a satellite or participate in demonstrations of how astronauts function in space. Displayed in simulated natural settings are a Mercury capsule, Gemini spacecraft and an Apollo 17 command module. An IMAX theatre shows films daily. Tram tours offer a behind-the-scenes look at the facility. Food is available.
