Golden Spike National Historic Site |
Promontory Summit is the site where the Union Pacific, and the Central Pacific railroads met, forming this nation's first transcontinental railroad. A golden spike was driven to celebrate the completion on May 10, 1869. The event is re-enacted every year on the same date. This spot was designated as a national historic site in non-federal ownership on April 2, 1957.
The visitor center gives tours along the railroad, and visitors can ride replica steamers along the tracks.
The site is located 32 miles west of Brigham City off Interstate 84 and Interstate 15.
