The park features the Old Deseret living history village, where visitors can see what the common Utah community was like in the mid-1800's. Adobe houses, shops, schools and churches are among the sites where guides in period dress share stories of early pioneers. A monument located south of the village commemorates the arrival of the Mormon pioneers; other early explorers and American Indians are also featured. A visitor center offers a video presentation, exhibits, and a museum store; open all year. Old Deseret village open April 1 through the first weekend in October. The park is located on the east bench of
Salt Lake City at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. Picnicking facilities and modern bathrooms are available within the park.
