The average elevation along the Wasatch Mountains is 9000 to 10,000 feet. Most of Utah's population is settled along the range's western front.

White men first saw the Wasatch Range in 1776. The first Mormon settlers reached the area in 1847.

Wasatch is an Indian name meaning "high mountain pass."
