This 1,744-acre site is 3 miles north of Appomattox where the Army of North Virginia was surrendered to Ulysses S Grant. Markers designate Grant's and Lee's headquarters, the site of the last shots fired by the Confederate artillery and infantry, and the road where the arms were laid down. A village of 27 structures has been restored to its 1865 appearance. Living-history programs are presented in the summer; costumed interpreters answer visitors' questions. The park and buildings are open daily 9am-5:30pm, June-August; 8:30am-5pm, the rest of the year. Closed various holidays; under 17 free.
