Founded in 1868, it is one of the oldest museums in Virginia. Displays include a collection of traditional art objects and artifacts from North America, sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Oceania. Also featured are American Indian art and works by contemporary African-American and African artists. Self-guided walking-tour maps of five national historic sites on campus are available. Call for hours of operation; closed school holidays. Admission is free to the public.
