Founded in 1908, James Madison Univesity is a public institution with programs in a wide variety of disciplines. It enrolls 12,000 undergraduates, two thirds of whom are from Virginia. Almost all the other states as well as many foreign countries are represented in the student body. The university participates in intercollegiate sports for both men and women and provides intramural sports as well. Psychology, communications, and English are the most popular majors.
